 What is Cascara? Cascara come from a rhamnus purshiana tree bark. In a crushed dried powdered form, it works as a natural laxative.
Where does Cascara grow? Common in the Pacific Northwest and used traditionally by Native Americans until being commercialized by pharmaceutical companies to be sold as laxative products.
Benefits: It relieves constipation and acts as a natural laxative by decreasing the absorption of liquid from the large intestine. Good for treating hemorrhoids by relieving stool buildup.
Precautions: Only small amounts should be used because it is highly potent. Do not use with a heart drug medicines, because the absorption of potassium will be greatly reduced while using cascara as a laxative.
