 What is Colchicum? Colchicum is a light purple flower with its root sprouts similar to small onions valued for its chemical properties to relieve the onset of gout.
Where does Colchicum grow? Colchicums originated from Asia Minor and Europe where it prefers hot dry summers before blooming.
Benefits: The plant produces a toxic alkaloid colchicine which is recommended for treating gout (the inflammation and build of urate crystals around joints). It can also treat Mediterranean fever, a condition contracted from contact with farm animals or unpasteurized milk.
Precautions: An overdose of colchicum can lead to poisoning, do not use unless under supervision from a health professional.
